I like to take pictures. This has always been the case. I carry my DSLR around a lot, and my iPhone has a pretty sweet camera. Plus, I'm the default photographer for work. Generally my work photos have been used on a pretty small scale, and my personal photos are for just that - personal use. BUT NOT TODAY!
Last week I got an email from White Castle asking if I would like one of my photos to appear on WhiteCastle.com. "You will not be compensated, is that ok?" they asked. My response, "HECK YES." And boom.
Here's the picture they wanted. It's not my best by any means. Joe and I went to White Castle for Valentine's Day this year, and I took pictures with my iPhone the whole time, regretting that I had not brought my Canon. So when I got the email with the request linking to this picture, I was kinda like, <kelly> "Oh." </kelly> But then I got over it because, man! It's WHITECASTLE.COM. I have been a fan of White Castle since I was a mere toddler and my Pop-Pop would take me there to pick up cheeseburgers to eat in the nearby park. One time, he took me and it was so crowded, I made him pick me up and as he held me I started kissing him all over going, "OH POP-POP I LOVE WHITE CASTLE!" He was totally embarrassed, which I don't understand. That sounds adorable to me. True story, bro. Cool story, bro.
And besides White Castle reaping the benefits of my camera skillz, I saw a photo of mine on a billboard. I know, WHAAAAAAAAT? I was walking back to a train station after a work event was over, totally sweaty and achy from carrying my big ole camera bag, and as we get closer to the station I look up at the billboards. And there, I see it. A billboard featuring two candidates for offices, and one of the photos of one of the candidates is a photo I took awhile back. We didn't end up working together long term, but it was no big deal. I knew they were going to use my photos throughout the campaign, but I never thought they'd get used on a billboard.
I predictably flipped a lid. "HEY! THAT'S MY PICTURE! HEY! LOOK!" I started pointing and flailing. No one was impressed. In front of the station, I took out my telephoto lens and tried to take some pictures of the billboard. Ironically, they look like garbage, and I will probably not get to take a better picture of it. So, you'll just have to trust me that a) it is awesome and b) does actually exist.
But, as cool as the billboard was, IT'S STILL NOT AS COOL AS BEING FEATURED ON WHITECASTLE.COM THOUGH, AHHHH.
