Node. Add. Blog. Yes. This I Will Do.

I'm terrible at this! Terrrrible!

So, what have I been up to besides not blogging?

1. Record Store Day. I had a work event the morning of Record Store Day, so I was worried I wouldn't get to my local participating store in time to get the shit I wanted (Weezer's EP, the Ted Leo + the Pharmacists 7" vinyl). But I got to the event (intern in tow!) and didn't have much to do. In fact, I got to leave about 15 minutes after arriving. Pretty sweet. So I high-tailed it over to Vintage Vinyl, thinking that, "Hey! It's only an hour after opening! How crowded could it be?" Uh, shit-crowded, that's how crowded.

I flew into manic-mode and didn't know where I should be looking. I first plowed through the epically large line to the new releases section and found the Weezer EP. Then I saw a Screaming Females singles CD, so I grabbed that too. Then I wandered around the regular section, and found the new Titus Andronicus CD so I figured, what the hell. I need to support my local indie store, as opposed to the Amazon.com juggernaut.

But, I still hadn't found Ted's vinyl. I wandered around the vinyl section, but couldn't find it. Finally I pushed to the front and inquired about it. The older bearded (and therefore much less intimating than the tattooed, apathetic punk kids) man told me that it was probably sold out but then, started to say, "Hmm. Well. Wait. The new Ted eh? Lemme see." Then he bent down into the glass display case, ripped something off the glass and handed it to me. "Here you go. Last one we have of Mr. Leo."

GLORY GLORY HALLELUJAH. Then I got on the end of the line and waited over 35 minutes to get to the cashier. TOTALLY WORTH IT!

2. Calligraphy lessons. I started and finished a two-part calligraphy class. I was the youngest in my class of about 11 women studying the Copperplate style of calligraphy. I've already bought books, extra supplies and have mental plans for my future calligraphy business. Calligraphy: it's serious biznes.

You can see some of my stuff here (practice Qs!), here (we were told to write the name of someone we love [D'AWWW]), and here. I think I'm pretty good. HIRE ME! I'm available! And most likely cheap since I know nothing about how much I should be charging for my services!

3. New York Fun. Joe and I went to New York last weekend and caught the end of the Tim Burton exhibit at the MoMA and it was as gothically delightful as you would expect. We also walked through the Marina Abramović exhibit not really knowing what it was about (or at least, I didn't know) and the only thing you need to know about that is: nudes. And this. My reaction to her entire exhibit was, "This is ridiculous. But good for you." *pats* Except not. NO TOUCHING THE NUDES. Apparently it is a problem.

We also went to the Superhero Supply Store in Brooklyn and they didn't have masks. What the fuck! They did have lots of jars of Gloom and Doom though, so that was great. They were still very nice and I'm sure I will dump a ton of money there via the internets once I put together my Hit Girl costume.

Then, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. My man started his own blog - Building Week - so keep your eyes peeled there for some awesome bridge analysis! In the meantime, here are my photos from the day.

4. Washington D.C. VACATION, BITCHES! I totally went on vacation. It was short (only 4 days) but it was glorious! I'd do a full recap, but if you've ever been to DC, you know the basics of what to see and what to do there. Some potent notables:

  • Here are my photos!
  • The Newseum > any other museum ever. All the others seem like crap once you've experienced the 6 floor mecca that is the Newseum.
  • Joe and I met up with his friend Welvin at a local bar where he DJs and I must say - being the only people in a bar is awesome. We totally bonded with the co-owner and lady bartender (whose photos from Italy are awesome BTW) or, at least, I thought we did. But that may have been because I was buzzed off of two White Russians. WHO KNOWS.

5. Kick-Ass. I saw it and loved it. Hit Girl was the best. Red Mist was cool too.

Hmm. That's all I can think of now in terms of noteworthy episodes in my life. Not too shabby, I'd say.
