I Usually Moderately Enjoy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day: a holiday for lovers and haters alike. But what about the indifferent to moderately joyous? For us, there is White Castle.

Back in 2008, my friend Blase emailed me with a simple question: Will you be my White Castle Valentine? Having been a fan of White Castle since my early years, getting such a request from the #1 White Castle fan I know was truly an honor. So I went! And it was so fun! So this year, I asked Joe to be my very special White Castle Valentine! And he accepted! (As any boyfriend would.)

White Castle's Valentine's Day promotion is an interesting one. You need to call and make reservations, and when you arrive, a host seats you. From there a waiter or waitress takes your order, and you pay upfront, just as though you were at the counter. The tables have red tablecloths, roses, and a single white candle. You order off a printed menu as well, that obviously exists for the sole purpose of the Valentine's Day promotion.

So Joe and I ordered onion rings, two orders of mozzarella sticks, two hamburgers, five cheeseburgers, a chocolate shake, a coke, a chicken ring sandwich, bacon cheeseburger, and a jalapeno cheeseburger.

And a free coffee! The sugar and creamers came in the little burger sleeves! We also got a Polaroid photo taken, and we each got a palette cleansing chocolate. I gotta say, since 2008, White Castle has greatly stepped up their Valentine's Day game.

Below is a Flickr slideshow of this romantic outing. Joe and I went a little crazy with my iPhone at dinner.
