Movie Review: Zombieland

Warning: Spoliers below the fold.

Fuck. YES.

Finally, another excellent rom-zom-com! With Shaun of the Dead, that makes two.

As a font geek, all the rules popping up everywhere made me so happy. And the opening credits were the best I've seen in a long time. I hate when things in the trailers aren't shown in the films themselves, so this was a great way to have all those stand alone scenes in Zombieland without very little set up.

My only cinematic references for Woody Harrelson's acting are The People vs. Larry Flynt and No County For Old Men and while he was good in those, this movie and his character seemed more like the perfect fit for him. And Jesse Eisenberg was Jesse Eisenberg, no more, no less. And that's fine by me.

Emma Stone was very hot and I loved her outfit, particularly her boots. I also really like Abigail Breslin. I can't believe she's like, 13 years old. She acts a lot older than her age, and the fact that she made this film earns her a bazillion cool points in my book. All in all, this was an excellent cast!

Besides the creativity of the rules sprinkled and referenced throughout the film, I also enjoyed all the creative zombie deaths. Yet, even at the end, at no point did I really fear that any of the main characters would die, and that made the film much more enjoyable overall.

I hope zombie movies whose plot is just about killing zombies as opposed to over dramatic survival situations and experiences becomes the new norm. We got a one line explanation about why the zombies are around to begin with, and a summary that the world is this way now and there's nothing we can do about it other than live our new formulated lives and that's that. And that's awesome.

Also, I totally flashbacked to this when the big surprise cameo happened. Who's with me?

How do I identify myself in your comments (Julie again)

Apparently there were different scripts made for different people being willing to make a cameo. One was for the Rock, and Matthew McCaunehay. and sometimes talahasse hated him and had a really funny back story. I need to find them and share them with you.

BM was perfect

As awesome as that is, I'm so happy they went with Bill Murray! He was totally perfect! The Rock might have been pretty interesting in his own way.

Also, I have no "Name" field for my comments, sadly, so you just have to sign your name at the end of the comments like this:

or however you please!
